The reality of potty training

Let me start out by saying if you are currently potty training, or getting ready to potty train, id like to send you all the positive vibes, prayers, or whatever suites your fancy, to get through this horrible time.

Now having two kids I thought made me an expert on potty training, you know since I'd done it before and quite successfully might I add. My son was very easy to potty train, I remember thinking "wow I'm really good at this whole mom thing" fast forward six years and here comes trouble. My daughter was not quite so easy. I dare say one of the worst experiences of my life lol. I think my first problem was that I assumed it would be easy, I assumed she would be the same as my son. I should have known it wouldn't be easy. She is about as stubborn and opinionated as one can get, no idea where she gets it from, anyway after three days of continuous accidents I broke down, sobbing, feeling like the worst mom in the world. My how I had been dethroned so fast. So after my ridiculous self pity wallowing I got online and started reading every article I could possibly find about potty training a stubborn child. I found a ton of different articles, blog posts, etc. all with seemingly good advice, but then one stuck out to me, it was titled potty training my almost 4 year old know it all toddler. DING DING DING we have a winner. Those words were my exact feelings. In this post she had just a few words of advice, wake up, tell your kid they are wearing underwear no matter what, and that it is their choice if they want to use the potty. No more asking, setting a timer for every 15 minutes, endless drinks, toys, treats, corvettes, whatever it is you have promised, drop it. So that's what I did, I woke her up that morning, said to her here are your panties, let me know if you choose to use the potty. That was it. She held out for a long time, but guess what, she went, on her own. I was so excited I think I may have cried. Such relief. We haven't had an accident since. Knock on wood...but we haven't tried night time training yet.....oh and thankfully I gave myself my mom of the year award back.
